What is Aistear??
Aistear is an early childhood framework that we use with the junior classes in Scoil Naomh Eltin. The aim of Aistear is to enrich children's learning through play. Every morning, both Junior and Senior Infants engage in the Aistear process. Each class is broken into groups and every morning each group has a different activity which focuses on a particular skill or learning objective. Some of these include, fine motor skills, literacy, numeracy, arts and craft, construction and small world play.
Senior Infants - Theme 'The Hospital'
Senior Infants - Theme 'Our School'
This September, the infant classes have been learning all about school through Aistear. Every day, we take a different station to work on. We plan our play and then we review it afterwards. We’re working very hard to improve our listening skills by looking at the person who is talking and summarising what they say. At the end of each play time, we spoke about the different activities we had in each area. Have a look at our pictures to see what we have been up to! :-)
A visit from the Doctor!
Our theme for Aistear at the moment is the hospital!! We started off our theme reading stories such as 'Katies visit to the hospital'. We were very excited with Dr. Caroline O' Dowd from the Kinsale surgery visited us. She showed us how a real stethoscope worked and all the other implements a Doctor may use when we visit.
