The children of Scoil Naomh Eltin participate in movement breaks in the school. This is to promote a healthy lifestyle. Groups of children leave the classroom to participate in this break for up to ten minutes daily. They learn the skills of balance, jumping on both feet and on one foot, hurdling, navigating obstacles and general well being. The teachers have observed an increase in their level of fitness and the children enjoy it immensely!

Visit from Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind

A representative from the guide dogs visited our school on 14th January. She brought a dog called Quinta. She spoke about how much money and work was involved in funding the Guide Dogs for the Blind. There can be a waiting list of up to 2 years to acquire a dog. It costs €35,000 to train a guide dog over its lifetime. 20% of this comes from the government. The rest comes from fundraising.
The guide dogs are usually a cross breed, which means the dogs can be more placid. A labra-doodle is a popular breed as they don't shed and can be very suitable for people with allergies. The also train dogs for children with Autism and as companions for the elderly. They rely on volunteers to walk the dogs. She was glad to accept the donation given by the pupils of Scoil Naomh Eltin who held a Halloween dress up day to raise funds.

Huge congratulations to 1st and 2nd class for winning the national song competition 'Rí Rá le Hector' in conjunction with Conradh na Gaeilge and 2FM. Thank you to Ms Murphy and Ms O'Connor for all their hard work and for introducing the students to the recording process. They even got a congratulatory video message from Hector himself! Have a listen and enjoy!
