A very big well done to our school's debating team today who took part in their first ever debate. They came against some very tough opposition and had to think on their feet. We were opposing the motion 'People should be fined for not recycling'. They were commended for their clarity and persuasiveness. They presented the facts in expert fashion and came out victorious! Maith sibh!
6th class pupils visited University College Cork last week where they were given a tour of the campus. Pupils got a great insight into the history of the college. Many of our pupils said they hope to revisit as students in the future.
Well done to our LEGO expert in 5th Class who has finished two LEGO expert level kits during Golden Time. We are so proud!
Vex Robotics Some pupils from 5th and 6th classes are doing Vex Robotics. We have built a robot and are going to be competing in a robotics competition against 15 other schools on the 17th of January in Sáile. We picked the Flex Build Robot and the robot’s name is Krush. The children in 1st to 6th classes voted to pick the name. In the competition Krush has to work with other robots to move cones and earn points. We will gain extra points because Krush can hang from a bar with its strong hook. We are also very proud that we have programmed Krush to move autonomously. We are looking forward to a very exciting day. We need to say a big thanks to the transition year students and Ms Hay from Kinsale Community School. We couldn’t have done it without them! Vex Robotics Team with Miss Deasy, Ms Horan and Miss O'Driscoll It was an early start for 5th class yesterday as they departed Kinsale at 5am bound for Dublin to showcase their project at the RDS Primary Science Fair. Their project explored testing air quality in our homes, and finding ways to improve it. The pupils did a wonderful job of explaining their project to members of the public and to the judges who were impressed with all the data and information they had collected. As a reward for all their hard work Eli Lilly kindly treated the class to pizza. 5th Class represented our school so well and we hope to see some of them representing Kinsale in the Secondary Schools Young Scientist competition in the future. Today Mr. Jim Deenan visited our school to present the winners from different age catagories with their medals and prizes as part of the First South/Irish League Of Credit Unions art competition. Well done to everyone! |
