The Open Evening for Scoil Naomh Eltin takes place on Wednesday, 11th February from 7.00 until 8.30. This is an opportunity for parents to come and view our brand new school. Our senior pupils will guide you through the building and relate to you all of the activities (both academic and extra-curricular) that take place in the school.
Refreshments will be served in our fabulous new hall by our hardworking Parent's Associationfrom 7.30 to 8.00 followed by a welcoming speech from our principal Susan O'Hanrahan. We look forward to seeing you all. On Friday the 6th of February, the first round of the local Scór competition took place Ballinspittle hall. Schools performing on the night included Minane Bridge, Ballinadee, Ballinspittle, Summercove, Scoil Eoin from Innishannon, and Scoil Naomh Eltin. This year our school put forward pupils for the Amhránaíocht Aonair (Solo Singing), the Bailéad Ghrúpa (Ballad Group), and the Tráth na gCeisteanna (Question Time).
The first up to represent the school was Leticia McCarthy from 6th class. Leticia successfully qualified for the next round in the Solo Singing category with a powerful rendition of “The Voyage”. Well done Leticia! Congratulations also to our Ballad Group consisting of Ava McCarthy and Christina Sabbage from 6th, Ilona Perret and Matas Gudauskis from 5th, and accompanied by Lia Connolly, also from 5th class, on the guitar. The group sang the traditional Irish song “Báidín Fheilimí”, and the ballad “No Frontiers” by Jimmy MacCarthy. A wonderful performance ensured that they also have qualified for the next round of the competition. The Tráth na gCeisteann team was Louis Allman from 5th, Finn Michael Bowen from 6th, and Natasha Hayes from 4th. It was a tough quiz, with some very difficult questions, and unfortunately they did not get through this time round. So it’s a big thank you to Alice McCarthy, David O’Leary and Norah Kenny for working so hard with all those taking part. The school is now looking forward to the next round of the competition. This is taking place on Sunday the 22nd of February in Riverstick Hall. Scoil Naomh Eltin took part in the Credit Union Quiz on Monday, 2nd February in the Trident Hotel. They competed against the other schools in the parish. There were two categories on the night - Under 11s and Under 13s. Our Under 13 team consisted of Finn Bowen, Nora O'Connor, Oskar Gudinovic and Paulina Matacinskaite who did extremely well earning 62 out of 72 points. Our Under 11 team consisting of Louis Allman, Tasha Hayes, Eamon Gaharan and Alana Ewing did the school proud, coming joint first and unfortunately missing out in the final tie breaker. Well done to all involved! |
