September 2015

Fáilte!
I take this opportunity to welcome all  to our new school year. A special welcome to our new junior infants and to all our new students and staff.
Congratulations
I congratulate Sophie Madden, Emily Grey, Amelia Dendewicz and Martin Molnar on winnning  and coming in as Runners-up in the the Hamish Hawkin’s Story telling Competition this summer.
Fyffe Go Bananas
Saoirse Hayes has brought delightful news to the school on the announcement of her victory in the Fyffes National Go Bananas Competition. Under the guidance of her theaacher Dara Neary and her parents John and Mary, Saoirse designed a learning space for the school.  This space will act as a multi sensory room to which all our students will have access. Well done Saoirse. We celebrate your imagination!
BT Young Scientist
Our fifth class students are submitting an entry to the BT Young Scientist competition in January. A study of the local marsh is being undertaken. If any parents are interested  in supporting this venture contact Ms Cullinane in 5th class.
Sciath na Scol
Sciath na Scol has started and our two teams are representig the school with pride in weekly matches. Thank you to all including trainers and players.
Homework Club
Homework club, Seolta and Guitar Lessons are up and running after school.
Our Spanish sailor
Congratulations to Diego on taking sailing in Kinsale by storm as he claimed second place recently!
Sherpa Kids
Sherpa kids is offering an invaluable pre and after school service to our school. If you have any questions please speak to Becky who is doing a great job.
Syrian Refugee Crisis Appeal
Sincere thanks all our students and families for your support in our non-uniform
mad hair fundraising appeal for the Syrian refugee crisis  on Friday September 25th. The sum of €460 was raised for these children and families at risk.

I hope that this school year will enrich your child's life in all aspects. Please understand that the staff at Scoil Naomh Eltin endeavour to promote your child's development in a holistic manner. Central to this is your involvement and your support. We look forward to working with you.

My name is Diego. Last weekend, I took part in a Sailing Competition in Kinsale. It was a windy day with a lot of waves. I finished 2nd place out of fifteen other competitors. At home in Madrid, I sail every Saturday. I love my hobby and it's great to be able to do it in Ireland.

I am delighted to be able to inform you that Scoil Naomh Eltin has been selected to be recognised formally as a Health Promoting School. There is a new national Health Promoting School flag which we will receive by the end of this academic year. We are looking forward to seeing it flying proudly outside the school. Many thanks to all the students, parents and staff who helped us to achieve this honour.
