Kornel's cat is famous!!!!!!

Some of you might have heard of Kornel's cat Miska already or perhaps have seen him hiding in a very strange place......a rooftop maybe? While Kornel Ochmanski from 4th class was on holidays, he came back to find that his cat was missing. While Miksa was busy playing hide and seek, Kornel was contacting people to help him find his cat. Finally, his pet cat was spotted hiding on a roof and was helped down by a cherry picker in our very own Kinsale town. Lots of people came to watch the cat being rescued and he is now famous all over Ireland. Even the examiner gave a full article on the drama. You can see pictures of the famous  Miska and Kornell in the examiner by clinking on the link below. All of us are so happy you have Miska back Kornell!

Anaphylaxis – Severe and Potentially Life-Threatening Allergic Reaction

9/6/2017

Dear Parent/Guardian

An outline of the school’s policy on “Managing Students with Chronic Health Conditions at Scoil Naomh Eltin” is now to be found in the "Notes" Section of the school's website.

As the school has a student with anaphylaxis (a severe and potentially life-threatening nut allergy) I have also included below an explanatory note relating to this condition.

Please do not send your child to school with nuts of any type, nutella, peanut butter or similar.

Thank you for your support in this serious matter.
Mise le meas

Susan O’ Hanrahan

What is anaphylaxis?

Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. It may occur within minutes of exposure to the allergen although sometimes it can take hours. It must be treated quickly with adrenaline.
Any allergic reaction including anaphylaxis occurs when the body’s immune system overreacts to a substance that it perceives as a threat. On rare occasions there may be no obvious trigger.

Common triggers of anaphylaxis include:
  • Peanuts and tree nuts
  • Sesame and other seeds
  • Fish
  • Shellfish
  • Dairy products
  • Egg
  • Soya
  • Wasp or bee stings
  • Natural latex rubber
  • Penicillin and other drugs
To download information sheets on these and other allergens visit
www.anaphylaxisireland.ie
Allergies are increasingly common and it is likely that there will be students in your school with allergies and some may be at risk of anaphylaxis. 1 in 50 children are allergic to peanuts or tree nuts.
