Kinsale Tidy Towns

Sincere thanks to Kinsale Tidy Towns Committeee who awarded Scoil Naomh Eltin  a Special Achievement Award this year at the recent annual awards ceremony. Thank  you  for the certificated, the lovely plaque and your kind donation.  This year Scoil Naomh Eltin look forward to working hard with the Kinsale Tidy Towns Committee in promoting Kinsale as both a wonderful town to live and work in and as a tourist destination of national and international renown. We have been continuing to develop the school grounds (and must pay particular thanks to staff from Eli Lilly who did some amazing work around the school as part of their community service day), and feel the place has never looked better!  We aim this year for our students to take ownership of the school grounds and to commence a maintenance programme. With our prize money we  are on our way to buying gardening gloves and reflective jackets today so please keep an eye our for our young gardeners who will monitor the growth of our grass, plants and most importantly get rid of weeds.  Our litter and waste team will also be busy at work.

Maths Week at Scoil Naomh Eltin

Bhí seachtain iontach againn! We had an excellent week!
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Class participated in the Mangahaigh website, where all children could work very hard online. You could win bronze, silver or even gold medals by earning points.
Some classes were very clever and did Mangahaigh for homework to earn extra points!
3rd Class tried very hard to increase their points on Friday morning in school by using the school laptops! No doubt lots of medals were won there.
Junior and Senior Infants were extremely busy doing Maths stations. There were different Maths activities at each station, involving number story time, counting, adding, sorting, number formation, matching activities and colouring too! Time flies when you’re having fun!
Some classes had great fun exploring by doing Maths trails around the school. 2nd Class did their trail on Friday evening and had great fun. What a great and exciting end to a week!
In 6th Class Hannah and Jakub did a show for the class carrying out Maths tricks. The two children reminded us of how Maths can be extremely fun and practical.
Scoil Naomh Eltin is a Maths Happy School every week but Maths week reminds us of the fun that we can have with Maths at home and at school!
Well done to all of the boys, girls and teachers that made it such a fun and enjoyable week!

Masters of Munster – our Kinsale Warriors go marching on………………
Our incredible Junior Ladies, Coaches and Mentors showed their true ‘Warrior worth’ last Saturday in Mallow to conquer the Munster title over a very strong and skilful Drom/Broadford side.
And what a match it was - #Serious Football from #Serious Players – it was a display of ‘digging deep’ and ‘fight to the end’ by both teams.

For our Junior Ladies it was not so much a dream, but rather a longstanding goal/target realised and achieved – in that real Warrior mode of self-belief….. ‘WE can do this, WE ARE good enough’, now is OUR time.  And they proved that in abundance on this cold October Saturday afternoon.

The huge contingent of Kinsale Supporters that invaded Mallow GAA Complex were witness to a display of unwavering team work, support for each other; passion, respect, commitment, dedication, courage and absolute pride in the Club Jersey.

For those of us in the stands, especially our younger supporters, there was a life lesson to be learned……… look what you can achieve when you work together through ‘thick and thin’, when you support and encourage one another, when you give more than your best for one another,  when you put your body on the line for your club, your team-mates, your friends………………   One team in pursuit of One goal.

To the extraordinary team of coaches and mentors (past and present) …….. you all have worked tirelessly in shaping this team, preparing these players for this day that, with doubt,  you knew would come – Kinsale salutes you…… YOUR commitment to and belief in, over the years, in this Junior Ladies Panel is only equalled by the dedication of the fantastic footballers that lined out on Saturday.

Congratulations again to everyone involved– to say the club, the town is proud of you – is an understatement!!

Have a read now of this astounding match report submitted by Catherine Murphy – if you weren’t fortunate to be there on Saturday – you’ll feel that you were, having read this great blow by blow account!

Kinsale Junior Ladies are Munster Champions!
After becoming County Junior Champions only a few weeks ago, Kinsale Ladies made their way through the Munster Championship defeating Austin Stacks and Dungarvan along the way. But in front of a huge crowd in Mallow yesterday they became Munster Champions in a very tough encounter against an excellent team from Drom–Broadford.
Drom-Broadford were first off the mark with an excellent point. It took Kinsale almost 6 minutes to get their first point which Orla Finn kicked superbly. Orla went onto kick 2 more before Drom-Broadford were to get on the score board again.  Captain fantastic Aisling Judge made crucial a penalty save on the 13th minute which would have put Drom-Broadford in front.  Orla, Faye Aherne and Sadhbh O Leary went on to kick points in the first half and Kinsale led 10 points to 3 at half time.

Drom-Broadford opened the second half very brightly and kicked 1-04 without reply to bring the score back to level pegging; 0-10 to 1-7. Sadhbh O Leary steadied the team and kicked a great point to put Kinsale back in front, followed by another point from Orla. The game ebbed and flowed with both teams kicking over points and with 10 minutes to go there was only 1 point between the teams with Kinsale just in the lead with the narrowest of margins. Kinsale managed to stay in the lead from this point with Loraine Copithorne playing a stormer in mid field and the backs Georgina Buckley, Christine Keohane, Caoimhe O Callaghan, Emma O Brien, Georgia Gould and Tracy McCarthy holding their positions and preventing the opposition from getting back on the score board. Orla Finn kicked the last 3 points and was deserved recipient of Player of the Match scoring an amazing 12 points out of a total of 17. The game finished Kinsale 0-17, Drom-Broadford 1-10.

Next up for Kinsale are the Connacht Champions in 4 weeks time.

Aisling Judge made an excellent speech and thanked the huge crowd for coming along to support them and thanked all the local businesses who have gotten behind them and decorated their businesses! Check out Kinsale GAA’s  Facebook page to see all the photos.

Our Parent Association is drafting a school directory to facilitate parents to make contact with each other. This will be finalized in the near future. In the interim please do not distribute birthday invitations in school as this leads to upset if all are not invited. This has already been evident on a number of occasions this year.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
