Mr. Tani was a complete gentleman. He encouraged Ciarán to keep up the hard work in school and also gave Ciarán many gifts including official badges from his NASA jacket. Ciarán said it was the best day of his life!!
It was an ordinary school day for Ciarán Murphy, whose special interest in Space and Science had him dreaming of one day working for NASA. "Ciarán I have a special visitor for you" said his teacher. Ciarán was amazed when none other than Dan Tani the NASA astronaut walked into the room. Ciarán couldn't believe his luck. Mr Tani stayed with Ciarán for two hours talking all things space and giving Ciarán details of his SIX trips to the international space station!.
Mr. Tani was a complete gentleman. He encouraged Ciarán to keep up the hard work in school and also gave Ciarán many gifts including official badges from his NASA jacket. Ciarán said it was the best day of his life!! Another year of Sciath na Scól and gaelic football comes to a close. Both our boys and girls teams played with skill, determination and sportsmanship through-out the year. Each and every student that played for either team competed excellently and represented the school with great pride. Even though there were some disappointments along the way with semi-final and final losses, there were also some fantastic performances and results and everyone deserves great credit for reaching those stages of the competitions.
To finish off the gaelic football season in style we had our annual Scoil Naomh Eltin Halloween Football blitz yesterday in Kinsale GAA pitch. There were six teams made up of our 5th and 6th class students. Kerry and Tyrone went on to reach the final with Kerry eventually coming out victorious. The team were undoubtedly delighted but felt mixed emotions with one player describing how this will be the only time he will be happy to see "Kerry as champions". Huge thanks to Mr lyons, Mr O'Brien, Mr O'Donovan and Mr Wright for training and coaching the teams after school and during the matches. We look forward to seeing our players in the blue and white of Kinsale for the coming year. Last Sunday 21st October four of our 6th class students represented Scoil Naomh Eltin in a quiz in Rochestown Park Hotel. The quiz was part of the Cork Chapter of Credit Union's International Credit Union Day celebrations. After 10 rounds of extremely challenging questions our team of Saoirse, Ruairidh, Ronan and James came tied for fourth. They competed fantastically well and were truly a CREDIT to their school. Well done all!
Over the past few weeks pupils in 5th and 6th class have been working hard to create a short science video under the guidance of their teacher Mr O'Brien for the 'ReelLIFE SCIENCE' video competition. The video is based on the topic of Ocean Acidification. Pupils got a great insight into how film is produced, we had fun using our green screen to create our backdrops. We hope you enjoy our short video. Well done to all the boys and girls who competed in the annual Sciath na Scol competition. We are incredibly proud of the effort pupils have made over the past few weeks. We have seen a huge improvement in all players and we hope they will continue their training with Kinsale GAA club.
"Cleachtadh a dhéanann maistreacht". Thank you to their coaches Mr. Lyons, Mr. Wright, Mr. O'Donovan and Mr. O'Brien. The Scoil Naomh Eltin choir “Harmonious” were delighted to perform at Culture Night 2018 in St. Multose Church on Friday September 21st. The choir performed our unique version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” in two part harmony. We are exceptionally proud of our choir pupils who demonstrated great discipline and dedication. Special thanks to Ms Caoimhe Mc Carthy for accompanying us on the flute, Mr David O’ Leary for accompanying us on the guitar and Ms. Claire O Shea for accompanying us on the harp. We are so lucky to have such talent in our school. Dara Neary Click to set custom HTML
