A huge congratulations to the students below for their fantastic work during Maths Week Ireland 2018. These students earned 150 points or more on the online Mangahigh Maths Challenges. Well done to all!
Last Saturday 6th class were invited to Eli Lilly to celebrate Science Week 2018. The day began with a short science quiz and pupils impressed the Eli Lilly employees and their teacher with their knowledge.
Pupils changed into their lab coats and made their way to the laboratory. In the lab there were a variety of science experiments. (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics). The class was split into three groups and each one had a chance to experiment at each station. The experiments included optical illusions, the density of liquids, magnetic and non-magnetic objects, the science behind lava lamps and how to hide messages on paper. Pupils were treated to a ‘Science Magic show’ and each child was given their very own chemistry set. A fantastic morning was had by all and we definitely have some scientists in the making. The students in Ms. O'Connell's infant musical theatre class had great fun making this baby shark video. We became actors, dancers, choreographers, directors and camera operators. Thank you to all the teachers who took part and a special thanks to Ms. Deasy's class who gave us a hand with our filming. We hope you enjoy it. On Wednesday last 3rd class were delighted to welcome baby Ellie and her mother Connie to the class to start our Roots of Empathy program. Roots of Empathy is an evidence-based programme delivered in primary school that raises social emotional competence and increases empathy. At the heart of the programme is a baby and parent who visit the classroom every three weeks during the school year. We would like to thank our instructor Diane and Bernardos for delivering the programme. For more information visit www.bernardos.ie/our-services/work-in-school/roots-of-empathy
The children of the school were asked to create Safety in the Workplace posters highlighting the dangers and promoting the safety procedures of the work place.
Due to the high standard of the entries received it became a difficult decision to narrow down the winners. Well done to all who took part. Congratualtions to Lauren (5th class) who won the senior competition and Youssef (1st class) who won the junior competiton. Both children won a family pass to Fota Wildlife Park from Seafield Construction. Much thanks to Seafield for their generous prizes and well done to Lauren, Youssef and all who took part. |
