A trip to the Post Office
After learning all about the post office at Aistear time ,we decided to put what we have learned into action.
First we made lovely Christmas cards for our families, we got an envelope with our address and stuck on a stamp. Off we went down town to the Post Office and put our letters in the postbox.
We hope our families got a nice suprise in their letterbox just in time for Christmas!

Our First Nativity
On Wednesday, December 11th Junior and Senior Infants performed their first school show 'Our First Nativity' to all their families and friends.
The show was a big success and we are very proud of all the hard work the boys and girls did to prepare for the show. We hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we enjoyed preforming it!

Oifig an Phoist Scoil Naomh Eltin
At Aistear time we have been exploring the theme of the Post Office. We discussed some of the things you can do at the Post Office. We learned that we would need to weigh our letters and parcels in order to calculate how much we would need to post them, you can buy vouchers and that you can even find application forms for a passport in the Post Office! We also learned some interesting facts about where you put a stamp on an envelope and that you can not smile when you are getting your passport picture taken!! There is a lot more involved in posting parcels and letters than we originally thought!
A sneak peek.....
Rehearsals are well under way for our Christmas Nativity, we are very excited for the big day!
OHK Café
Junior Infants have been having such a great time at the Aistear Café, we decided to visit a real cafe in Kinsale.
OHK Café very kindly opened their café especially for us on Wednesday and what a treat it was!
We got to look at the menu, order a drink and some cake and it was just delicious!
A thousand thanks to Sarah and all at OHK for such a wonderful morning.

All welcome!
Our Aistear Café
We have been exploring the theme of the Café at Aistear.
It has been so much fun - dressing up as chefs, waitors and customers. We have been building a cafe from lego, making healthy and unhealthy meals, writing menus and lots of sensory play!
We even got to made some yummy rice crispie cakes. We really enjoyed melting the chocolate and mixing it all together. They were delicious!!

Mobile Farm at Scoil Naomh Eltin
The mobile farm from Agri Aware caused great excitement in Junior Infants at Scoil Naomh Eltin when it visited the school. The children had a great chance to see up close and personal some animals and birds from the farm and learned some interesting facts about life on the farm.
Aistear - At the Doctor
Junior Infants have been learning about the doctor this week. The children have been role playing going to the doctor’s surgery and playing with the hospital. They have learned how to use a stethoscope, a thermometer and how to apply a bandage! They also explored the roles of the receptionist, the patient and the doctor.
Here are some pictures of the children hard at work!

Maths Week 2019
From Monday 14th to Friday 18th of October we celebrated Maths Week in Junior Infants. Each morning we had math stations. We played lots of maths games, number activities and even got to use our brand new ipads for number games. We really enjoyed Maths Week 2019.
Fun for all day!
Finding mini-beasts in the sun!
We have been learning all about mini-beasts and their habitats in Aistear recently. We have chatted about how to recognize them and how important they are to us, particularly the bees which we celebrated on World Bee Day on the 20th of May! Take a look at us using our science equipment to take a closer look at some mini-beasts before letting them free again!
The day Garda Dave had to put some Junior Infants into the Garda car...
Thank you to Garda Dave Kelly who visited us. It was such a great surprise. The boys and girls got a chance to talk and ask questions about being a Garda. Garda Dave told us how he can help us out and if we ever see him, to give him a wave and say hello! He even put on the siren! It was very exciting...*queue lots of excited screams and shouts*
Junior Infants (B) 2018/2019
A huge well done to Ellie O' Shea in Junior Infants who recently donated her lovely, long hair to the 'Little Princess Foundation'. Ellie's kindness will help other children so much and we are very proud of her in Scoil Naomh Eltin. Well done to Ellie - such an inspiration to all!
At the garden centre...
Inch by inch, row by row,
Gonna make this garden grow,
All we need is a rake and a hoe,
And a piece of fertile ground.
Inch by inch, row by row,
Someone bless these seeds I sow,
Someone warm them from below,
Til the rain comes tumbling down.

Sunflowers, forget-me-nots, godetia and pansies...we have very green fingers in Junior Infants!
Easter Holidays - hip hip hooray!
|
Chocolate Easter Bunny in a jelly bean nest,
I'm saving you 'til very last because I love you best! |
Please fasten your seat belts for take off on Air Eltin!
We converted our Aistear room into an Airport this week! The boys and girls in Junior Infants learned about passports, boarding passes, luggage allowances and security checks! Our security officers came across some interesting characters and had to be very careful at passport control! Captain Katie from Cork Airport came to visit us too to show us how hard she has worked to become a pilot, and now a captain!
Junior Infants take to the streets to promote road safety!
Our class have been learning about how to be safe when out and about in Kinsale. We have been learning the safe cross code song in class too! We decided to put our skills to practice. We wore our high visibility vests from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and just like Noah's Ark, Junior Infants walked two by two around our lovely town. We finished our expedition with a lovely picnic in the sunshine!
World Down Syndrome Day!
|
Alice in Wonderland!
Take a look through the Junior Infant photo shoot that happened ahead of our magical school musical! Lots of woodland creatures to be seen...but can you guess who they are?! |
Pancake Tuesday!
I scream, you scream, we all scream for homemade ice-cream!!!
Agricultural developments in Junior Infants! |
We are having lots of fun on the farmyard this week in Aistear! The boys and girls in Junior Infants have been busy constructing sheds and enclosures for the animals. We have also learned about the best crops a farmer can grow in Ireland and how to plant seeds. We will put our agricultural knowledge to good use very soon. Watch this space!
|
Santa's helpers are busy preparing...
Meteorologists in Aistear! |
Junior Infant Meteorologists have been inundated with work this month with our unpredictable Irish weather! We have learned all about strong gale force winds, yellow and orange weather warnings and how a cloud is formed. We even made our own windsocks to determine the direction and strength of the wind. We are ready for all climates and can give you some advice on how to prepare for our indecisive climate!
|
|
Here is a video of Junior Infants dancing with the role models that are Senior Infants. We love our Irish Dancing classes!
|
Fun with numbers! |
Junior Infants are getting to grips with their numbers 1 and 2 this week. We are counting and identifying sets of 1 and 2. We are learning how to write the numbers. We are matching sets of objects to the corresponding numeral and we are having a whole lot of fun doing all of the above! Here are the number rhymes we have learned so far to help us form the numbers 1 and 2:
Number one is like a stick, a straight line down, that's very quick! Number two go right around, then make a line across the ground. |
Bon appétit!
Scoil Naomh Eltin has become the home to many chefs, waitresses, waiters, restaurant managers and mannerly customers in the past week. The boys and girls are designing their own menus and are constructing their own Scoil Naomh Eltin Restaurant for the people of Kinsale and beyond! We are practicing our manners when conversing with people in the restaurant as well as making our own delicious treats. Business is booming in our restaurant! Seeing is believing!
|
Junior Infants are having so much fun learning new dance routines at the moment with 'Dancing Derek'. Dance is a very important strand in the Physical Education curriculum that allows the children to express themselves in a fun, enjoyable environment with their friends! Thank you to our fantastic teacher Derek for showing us some serious moves!
|
A Halloween Howl!
I wonder what the boys and girls in Junior Infants felt inside the mystery boxes? Witches fingers? Boiled worms? Squishy eyeballs? Their faces say it all...
Happy Halloween!
|
Junior Infants had a spook-tacular few days in the run up to the mid-term break! We learned lots of scary songs and poems. The boys and girls also took part in some more traditional Halloween games such as snap apple. Funnily enough, a lot of the pupils seemed more interested in the apple rather than the game!
|
Maths Week 2018 |
Junior Infants really enjoyed Maths Week 2018. We had lots of fun playing games while practicing our counting, sorting, matching, comparing and turn-taking too! Our smiles say it all!
|
Junior Infants are feeling spooky in Aistear!
Doctors and nurses in training here in Scoil Naomh Eltin!
|
We were at the doctor's surgery in Aistear recently. We learned how to carry out minor surgeries and administer an anaesthetic to our patients! We even had a real life doctor visit us to see if we are ready to work in a hospital! Watch this space!
