Santa’s Boat Challenge
We were given an important challenge by Santa to make boats strong enough to carry lots of presents across the oceans. We had great fun building and testing our boats.
Christmas Jumper Day for SVP
Our Wonderful Writer
Have a look at the wonderful writing Hannah did all about one of her favourite stories. Well done Hannah!
Senior Infant Scientists
We had great fun carrying out a few experiments for Science Week. We examined how water travels up through the plant’s stem and into the petals to keep the flowers fresh and to help them to grow. We loved watching our flowers change colour as they drank the water! We also carried out an experiment to see how the coloured sugar coating on skittles dissolves in warm water. Have a look at our results.
Our trip to the Cosy Cafe
We have been learning all about the restaurant in Aistear and today we decided to put everything we learned into practice. We walked down to the Cosy Cafe, where we had the chance to order milk and hot chocolate, using our nicest manners. We practiced our best table manners as we drank our drinks and ate our yummy chocolate lollipops. Thank you Cosy Cafe!
We had a spooktacular Halloween dress up day. We played Halloween games in Aistear, made delicious Rice Krispie buns and had a howl at our Halloween party. Check out our fantastic costumes!
Senior Infants really enjoyed Maths Week. We had so much fun during maths stations while practicing plenty of skills. We went on a maths trail around the school looking at maths in our environment. We were lucky enough to have some 5th class students helping us out. We learned all about 2-D shapes and made really cool shape monsters!
We have been having a lot of fun learning about Autumn. We became nature detectives and searched around Kinsale for signs of Autumn. We found plenty of colourful leaves that had fallen off the deciduous trees. We found apples and blackberries that were ready to be collected. We collected some conkers, helicopters, leaves and pine cones for our autumn table. After all that detective work we finished our trail with a trip to the park. We then used some of the leaves that we collected to make colourful pop art leaf prints. We love Autumn!
Scoil Naomh Eltin's Author
Our student made her own book this week about Tom and Abbeyjess. Have a look at her beautiful writing and drawings. Well done!
Balloon Surfing :)
Senior infants carried out a really cool experiment for science week. We went balloon surfing. It was so much fun. We blew up lots of balloons and put them under one of our tables. We took turns standing on the table to make it heavier. We guessed that the balloons would burst...but they didn't! Sometimes we saw that some of them were ready to burst so we balanced the table by adding or moving students to the lighter side. They didn't even burst when we had FIVE students and Barry balloon surfing. It was so cool!
We like to move it, move it!
We are a very active class and love to get moving during the day. We have great fun with GoNoodle and at 'Drop Everything and Dance' time. We have been practising and improving our football skills with Anthony every Tuesday. We are learning athletic skills like running, jumping and throwing every Wednesday with Claire. We have just started Irish dancing on Thursdays and dancing with Derek on Mondays. It is great fun and we are learning something new every week.
We love to read!
We are working very hard on our reading in Senior Infants. We are blending our sounds together to read words, learning our tricky words, reading our class reader, as well as reading loads of great stories from our library. Elsie and Ossama became authors and illustrators when they wrote their own stories. Well done!
A visit to the playground!
We worked so hard all week long that we decided to take a little trip to Kinsale Playground. We had so much fun!
We love Autumn!
We have been learning all about Autumn. We became detectives and went looking for some signs of Autumn. We found plenty of deciduous trees that had already shed their colourful leaves. We found apples and blackberries that were ready to be collected. We also collected some conkers, acorns, pine cones, leaves and helicopters for our autumn table. Timothy and Abbey told us all about the busy harvest time on the farm. We learned about the animals that are getting ready to hibernate or migrate for the winter. We also made beautiful autumn trees for our autumn table.
We have been learning languages in Senior Infants. As well as our English and Gaeilge, we've learnt some Spanish, Arabic and Lithuanian. How lucky are we to have such fantastic teachers in our class! Múinteoir Torres even made a fantastic poster to help us learn Spanish.
Practicing our fine motor skills with Ms. O' Connell!
We're busy practising our fine motor skills here in senior infants. We've been cutting and gluing, strengthening our fingers, developing our hand - eye coordination and practising our letter formations.
