A trip to the playground

Active School Week

What a busy week! We had gymnastics, circuits in the halla, GAA training and even a whole school dance on the yard!
Senior Infants really enjoyed Active School Week!

The Dentist

The week we have been learning all about the dentist.
We set up our Dental Surgery roleplay area which included a waiting room, reception, dentist chair and an x-ray area. The children were cleaning and flossing teeth. We learned all about the functions and number of our different teeth and made models of teeth! We also talked about healthy and unhealthy food for our teeth. We had great fun and learned the importance of keeping our teeth clean and healthy!

Garda Visit

Senior Infants had a very special visitor today - Garda Dave Kelly.
Garda Dave told us all about his job and how he helps people in our community. He talked to us about road safety and what to do if we ever got lost. We got to see his Garda radio,  try on his Garda hat and we even arrested a few people with his handcuffs!
Thank you so much Garda Dave for visiting Senior Infants.

Monday is Gymnastics Day!

The Farm

Over the past few weeks, the children in Senior Infants have been learning all about the farm in Aistear. They have been very busy constructing cows, building farms, learning all about farm animals and their babies and they even planted their very own vegetables.
On Tuesday our very own local resident farmer Mr. O’Donovan came to visit the children in senior infants. They were all so excited and they had many questioned prepared for his arrival. Mr. O’Donovan spoke to the children all about his daily routine on his dairy farm. He showed the children videos and photos of the farm animals and they discussed everything from the journey of milk to the setting of crops. The children thoroughly enjoyed his visit. It’s clear to say we have many budding farmers here in Senior Infants!

Musical Instruments

This week for homework Ms. Sheehan gave us a very different task - we had to create a musical instrument out of items we had at home!
What fun Senior Infants had creating their very own musical instrument. On Friday we had 'Show and Tell' and explained to the class what we had made and how. We even made a band with all our instruments!

The Clothes Shop - Aistear

Senior Infants have been working on the theme of clothes for Aistear time.

The children had lots of fun dressing up in different clothes and selling and buying them in the clothes shop. The shopkeepers were busy picking out clothes for the customers, showing them to the dressing room, using the till and helping the customers.
In the construction area and small world, the children were busy building various clothes shops, – sports shops, children’s clothes shops, department stores, boutiques and stocking them.
Using play dough the children designed out fits for men and women and there was a great variety of fashion on display.
In Junk Art, the children discovered a variety of fabrics, i.e. wool, hessian, felt , fabric and curtain material. The children worked as fashion designer and created outfits and a washing line using these materials. They were also busy washing, drying and hanging clothe son the washing line!

World Book Day

Well done to Senior Infants who went to great effort getting dressed up as characters from some of their favourite books for World Book Day.
We read the story GRRRR by Rob Biddulph and really enjoyed it. After we all wrote a book review.
Happy World Book Day!

Happy Valentine's Day

A Trip to OHK Café

As part of our Aistear Programme, Senior Infants have been learning about the café.
To supplement their learning we visited OHK Café. The children got to  ordering, queueing and paying for their goods.

Many thanks to the Sarah, Liz and all the staff of OHK Café who have generously offered to open especially for our visit, we are very grateful.
It was such a lovely treat. We had yummy hot chocolate and cake!

Maths Week

Senior Infants were very busy for Maths Week!
We went on a maths trail around our school, played number games on the iPad, lots of matching activities and we even programmed Beebots to move around a maze.
We think it should be maths week every week!

We built some house for the Three Little Pigs

All about Autumn

Autumn leaves begin to blow,
Coloured leaves fall fast and slow,
Whirling, twirling all around,
Til at last they touch the ground!
