Today we created our own C02 powered rocket. When water is added to a vitamin C tablet the gas carbon dioxide is released. The pressure of the carbon dioxide gas builds up inside the canister until it becomes so great that it blows the canister from its lid. The gas rushing out of the end of the canister pushes it in the opposite direction. have a look at our result!
Over the next 10 weeks 5th class will be participating in a serious of STEAM engineering workshops. We are lucky to have two chemical engineers from Eli Lilly assisting us with the programme. In week one the theme was bridges. We had great fun making body bridges and constructing our own bridges using lollipop sticks. We are already looking forward to the next workshop!
Our class were fortunate to be invited to Kinsale Community School for Gaelic coaching. Transition year students got the opportunity to practice their coaching skills as our class participated in football and hurling drills. It was great to see everyone trying their best and everyone really enjoyed it. A big thank you to the Kinsale Community school who treated our class with tayto's and club orange as a reward for their participation.
We recently opened a stationery shop in school. Charlie and Faith from 5th and M.J. and Flynn from 6th have been helping to run the shop. We have been delighted with the response from other classes and have sold out most of our stock. We have learned about profit, loss, margins and above all good customer service. We may even seek to expand the business next year. "From a tiny acorn grows a mighty oak tree!"
