5th class took a break from the textbooks and classroom as we completed a maths trail last Friday. We were lucky with the winter sun as we got to put some of the maths concepts we have learned into everyday use as we solved a series of problems. Great fun was had and we learned how important maths is in everyday life.
We have just completed our 2 day workshop here in 5th class with Bizworld. It has been an amazing learning experience for us. We all worked as directors of our own company and learned about the world of business. We used skills such as negotiating and developing a socially responsible business. The workshop came to life when we had to pitch our company's product to a dragon and try and get investment [ bizbucks !]We also had to create an advertisement for our product and made a pitch to 4th class where they also got an opportunity to invest in our company;s product! We really loved our 2 day workshop with Linda from Bank of Ireland! Our products that our company created were School Tech , Home on the Road, Bench Buddy and Transport for Life!
This year, 5th Class took part in the 'Port of Cork' competition. This is an exciting initiative that aims to educate primary schools on the history and workings of Cork Harbour. We looked at the involvement of Cork Harbour in Word War One. We did a lot of research, writing and drawing on this subject, as well as making some impressive ship replicas. As a reward for our efforts and for entering the competition, our class will get a boat tour of Cork Harbour. Táimid ag tnúth go mór leis!
We recently put the finishing touches to our Recipe Books. This was part of a creative writing project, whereby we each researched, wrote and illustrated a recipe of our choice. Our teacher then compiled and copied all the recipes. The finished produce is an A3-sized Recipe Book for each of us to take home. We hope to have some fun trying out eachother's recipes!
Today, Wednesday 22nd March 2017, 5th Class had their final lesson of 'Tech Kids' - an eight-week block of computer lessons taught by Niamh. During the eight weeks, we learnt some valuable computer skills, including coding, building a website, how to use microsoft and how to use html. On our final day, Niamh presented us with our very own rulers that we had made using photos we chose from the internet. We also received certs for our achievements.
