'Pirate Pete' Magic Show.
On Wednesday June 2nd 2021, a special visitor arrived at Scoil Naomh Eltin, as part of a well-deserved 'Fun Day' for the infant classes. As you will see from the photographs below, we thoroughly enjoyed and were enthralled by Pete's magic tricks! Pirate Pete kept up enteratined and amused with some amazing magic tricks and some really funny jokes! We were at the edge of our seats! Thank you to Miss O' Connor for organising Pirate Pete's visit!
Did somebody say 'Ice-Cream'?
As a treat for having worked so hard all year, another element of our 'Fun Day' was a delicious ice-cream from Mr Cool's ice-cream truck! It was so exciting to see the ice-cream truck drive right into our school yard and we all thorougly enjoyed our delicious ice-creams!
A Day Out for Our Teddies!
To top off a wonderful 'Fun Day' of magic, laughter and ice-cream we relaxed on the grass for an epic 'Teddy Bear's Picnic'. We had all chosen our favourite teddy to bring to school for the day and are happy to report that the teddies had as much fun as we did!
Aistear theme: 'The Doctor'.
Have you got a medical complaint you need advice on? Well look no further than the excellent team of nurses, doctors and surgeons in Senior Infants B! We recently explored the theme of 'The Doctor' during Aistear and had lots of practice diagnosing a whole host of different ailments. We learnt all about the different bones that a skelton has and set to work as a team to cut, arrange and paste these correctly onto a large poster to create our own life-sized skeltons! We had lots of fun in various roles (doctor, surgeon, receptionist, nurse, patient etc) and used our imaginations to create a hospital out of lego and blocks.
Aistear theme: 'The Post Office'
In December, we explored the theme of 'The Post Office' in Aistear. We learned about all of the different services that the Post Office provides, and we practised using lots of Post Office-related vocabulary. We wrote letters to our Mums and Dads telling them all of our news from the first term in school and then set off on foot to post these to our nearest post box. It was a pity that somebody had parked their car right in front of the post box but luckily we were still able to pop our letters in! We also wrapped some cardboard boxes in wrapping paper, practised writing our own address on these and designed our own stamp! We had lots of fun pretending to be post office clerks and customers. As a special treat for working so hard in Term 1, we had some yummy hot chocolate on the last day of Aistear in December.
Merry Christmas from Senior Infants B
Aistear theme: 'The Restaurant'.
In November, one of the themes we explored in Aistear was 'The Restaurant'. This was so much fun! We made our own chef hats out of paper and then set to work creating yummy 'paper pizzas' with a whole host of different toppings - cheese, pepperoni, pineapple, mushroom - you name it! We then set to work designing and constructing a restaurant using different building materials- lego, large and small blocks etc. We painted mouth-watering cupcakes and doughnuts and practiced our fine motor skills by threading pictures of different food items. Finally, we let our imaginations run wild by making different types of food using our playdough and completing various playdough challenges on our restaurant-themed playdough mats. Phew! We were hungry after all that activity, so on Friday as a special treat for working so hard we ate a slice of delicious REAL pizzas :) Yummy!
Aistear theme: 'Autumn'.
The first theme were explored in Aistear in Senior Infants this year was that of 'Autumn'. We learned about how the leaves change colour and fall from deciduous trees. We listened to a story about hibernating animals and then we got to work with concrete materials exploring this theme! We used our imaginations and our hands to create little Autumn creatures and complete various playdough challenges. We painted lovely Autumn scenes and used crepe paper to colour a tree template in beautiful Autumn colours. Check out all the fun we had below!
Aistear theme: 'The School'
In October, one of our Aistear themes was 'The School'. We had lots of fun exploring this theme. We used felt, sequins and stickers to design new school shoes and we used our construction materials to work as part of a team to design and create a school building! We also used our imaginations to complete various playdough challenges. We love Aistear!

Lá na bPancóga
Our take on Kandinsky's Circles
In February, we focused on the artist Wassily Kandinsky. He is famous for his abstract art. We decided to create Kandinsky inspired Hearts - here are our wonderful creations.
Our trip to the Post Office
In English, we learned the procedure for writing a letter so then we decided to follow that procedure and write our own letters to Santa. We also drew lovely pictures for Santa. As a class, we walked down to the Post Office to post our letters. Along the way, we met a post man and we stopped to chat to him about his job. We were also very lucky to meet another post man on the way back and we got a picture with his van! We had a great adventure to the Post Office.
Carúil na Nollag - Bualadh Bos
Tá Daidí na Nollag ag teacht...
It all started this morning with a message from Toby the Elf telling us that a very special person was coming to visit us. Next thing we know, there were sirens wailing and a Fire Engine in the yard delivering a very precious visitor - Santa Claus. We were thrilled to see him, we asked him questions and sang a few Christmas Carols. Thank you so much for coming to see us Santa!
Thank you, thank you for coming to see our First Nativity
|
Senior Infants had the most wonderful time on stage performing for all the parents at the Christmas Carol Service. Everyone sang and danced their hearts out. We also loved learning about the story of how Jesus was born. A big thank you to everyone who came to watch. We are so proud of all everyone.

Comhghairdeas to our Credit Union Colouring Competition Winner!!
How long until Maths?
|
We've been learning all about length and width in Maths. As you can see we've been very busy measuring a variety of different objects/people in the class! |
Toby the Elf causing havoc!
Our trip to the café
We have been learning all about the café in Aistear. As we are now experts in ordering and being customers, we thought it would be a great idea to visit a local café to test out our skills. We were so lucky to visit St. Francis' Café in Kinsale where we got hot chocolate, smoothies and a treat. We also met the chef Darren and he showed us the different areas in the kitchen. It was a great day! A huge thank you to everyone at St. Francis' Café.
Aistear Café
We were put to work in Senior Infants this fortnight as our classroom became a café for Aistear. We were making Rice Krispie buns, building a café, taking orders from customers, serving customers, clearing and setting tables, we even had to do the washing up! |
|
Wibbly Wobbly Jelly
|
As we are learning all about procedural writing we decided to make jelly. We took turns stirring and adding water until the jelly dissolved. While the jelly was setting, we discussed the steps and then wrote the procedure which are proudly on display in school. |
Why walk when you can dance?
Our focus in P.E. for November and December is dance. We are very lucky in Scoil Naomh Eltin to have 2 visiting teachers to help us. Every Monday, Dancing Derek comes to visit and we work on our creative dance while on Thursdays Miah teaches us some traditional Irish dances. A huge thank you to Derek and Miah from all of us in Senior Infants!
Mobile Farm Visit
|
This morning we got a fantastic surprise visit - our school yard turned into a farmyard. There was great excitement as we got to see some pigs, sheep, ducks, calves, a hen and her baby chicks and a turkey. Farmers in the making!
|
Something seems fishy about this...
We were delighted to work with Fiona the artist who brought in some real fish for us to draw, Not only did we get to draw the fish but we also got to touch them, look at their gills, fins, tails, eyes and antenna. What a fantastic experience it was! We cannot wait to see the finished product. Take sneak peek below at the beginning stages of our project.
Spooktacular Aistear
Aistear was very spooky in October. There were a lot of eyeballs and bats hidden in pasta to help us practise our fine motor skills. Our beautiful doll house got a make over and became a haunted house. Boys and girls also got to draw haunted houses and stick spooky Halloween pasta on to decorate them, We also had a dress up corner where the boys and girls of Senior Infants disappeared and witches, ghosts and vampires took their place.

Pointillism Pumpkins
|
As it was nearing Halloween, we decided to put our pointillism technique to the test and create spooky pumpkins. We used cotton buds to create the pointillism effect. We had great fun learning about pointillism.

Maths Week 2019!
Senior Infants became mathematician's during Maths Week. We were so lucky to have maths stations every day. We were practising lots of different areas of the curriculum from finding and ordering numbers on the iPads to Monster Shape Bingo. We also teamed up with Ms. O'Connor's class and went on a maths trail around the school grounds. We wish it could be maths week every week!!
We love Autumn! We have been learning all about Autumn. We became detectives and went looking for some signs of Autumn. We found plenty of deciduous trees that had already shed their colourful leaves. Boys and girls also collected some conkers, acorns, pine cones, leaves and helicopters for our autumn table. We learned about the animals that are getting ready to hibernate or migrate for the winter. We also made beautiful clay hedgehogs for our Autumn table.
During Aistear, we made animals from Playdoh and made their homes using moss and twigs from the garden. In small-world, we had Little Red Riding Hood and a very frightening granny which was then brought to life in the role-play area where children performed Little Red Riding Hood. |
