Tuesday, 1st of December was a very exciting morning at Scoil Naomh Eltin. Sub Lieutenant Daniel Cagney, Petty Officer Cara Moloney and Trooper Trevor Clancy arrived at school to present us with an Irish Flag. This occasion was to commemorate the 1916 Rising. Petty Officer Cara Moloney along with one of our students from 6th class read the Proclamation for the whole school. Students from sixth class read their own unique 2016 Proclamation. One of our senior and one of our junior students accepted a gift of an Irish flag marking the occasion.
Fifth and sixth class will continuing studying this period of important Irish history throughout the school year. In February these students will make an exciting trip to Dublin to complete the Rebellion Walk.

Gaudete

Dear Parents,
This third Sunday of Advent is often referred to as Gaudete Sunday, meaning the Sunday of Joy.
In Italy, on Gaudete Sunday people bring the figurine of baby Jesus from their crib to Mass for a blessing. They then wrap the figurine up in Christmas paper. The figurine is the first present to be unwrapped on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning and is a lovely reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. If anyone would like to bring the figurine from their crib to any of the masses this weekend Fr. Robert will be doing this special blessing.
Fr. Robert  will also  explain to our students that throughout Advent, we are preparing and looking forward to the birth of Jesus. He will talk about how we can prepare for the birth of Jesus, by being kind, respectful, truthful, and by sharing with others.
