Twenty pupils from Scoil Naomh Eltin's 6th Class received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday April 15th at St. John the Baptist Church, Kinsale. The day dawned bright and sunny and the church was filled with their immediate and extended families and friends. Dressed in their beautiful white gowns, and accompanied by their sponsor, each child was annointed with the oil of Chrism by Archbishop Patrick Coveney. The children sung an array of hymns such as 'Close to You' and 'The Clouds Veil' beautifully throughout the ceremony. The day was a very special one - after many months of preparation and study, these children were blessed with the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit. Congratulations to the Confirmation class of 2016. On Thursday, 3rd of March we celebrated World Book Day. We all dressed up as book characters, brought our favourite book to school and visited our school library. Our senior classes visited the junior classes to read some lovely stories. At 12 o'clock each class participated in DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read) It was so much fun!! Can you find Mary Poppins?? Thank you to Transition Year students from Kinsale Community School for organising a Easter Fun Day for all our students! Scoil Naomh Eltin choir 'Harmonious' recently had their biggest excursion yet. Having being established last October the choir has gone from strength to strength. With many in-school performances completed, including a very successful Christmas concert,
Harmonious performed to a full house in the Cork Opera House on Tuesday March 8th. This was part of a “Sing Out Loud” production, a stage school which aims to give children the gift of performing in substantial venues and give the wonderful gift of memories that will last a lifetime. The choir certainly rose to the occasion and months of hard work culminated in an enchanting performance which left the audience wanting more. Before we left school we were treated to pizza by the Parent Association, it was yummy!! On arrival at the Cork Opera House we were given a tour backstage and shown the actual stage we would be performing on. It was HUGE! A quick rehearsal and it was show time! What excitement! We were fantastic! What a show. There was a full band to accompany us. Local singing talent, a drum display, a world class Irish dancer who once danced for president Barack Obama in the White House, but Mrs. Neary still thinks our performance was the highlight! We will definitely be back next year!. IMPORTANT NOTE – PLEASE READ: Underage Training Times (Under 6 to Under 12) for Boys, Girls Football, Camogie

Lá le Pádraig A Note of Thanks and Appreciation Dear Parent/Guardian On behalf of the staff of Scoil Naomh Eltin I wish to thank you most sincerely for the great turn out and unique costumes at the St Patrick’s Day Parade. In undertaking this venture we hoped to create an understanding and appreciation of Irish History in this commemorative year. Thank you for all you did to support this. The result and the outstanding display far surpassed our expectations. The school is still receiving calls of commendation. Winning first prize was indeed a matter of pride and the presentation in the Trident Hotel on the 17th was a high spirited occasion. The prizes received (a voucher for The White Lady and the Bluehaven) have been raffled. David Thorpe and Jasmine Linehan are the lucky winners. The cup has arrived in the school and the name of the school will be engraved on it shortly. Sincere thanks to Natalie Grey for her support whilst costumes were being created and to Martin and Aileen Mc Ginn for loaning their car and driving our float. Again thank you for your involvement. We had a great day. The students at Scoil Naomh Eltin are a credit to their families and their school. How lucky we are to work with such an enthusiastic and collaborative community. Le míle, míle buíochas Susan O’ Hanrahan |
