One day I was sitting in Hamish’s cottage sipping lemonade when the town bell rand which means everyone must go to the town hall immediately. “Come on” hamish said and took my hand. When he got to the town hall it was packed with people. “Settle down” bellowed Mayor Johnson. It turned out that a pack of visious wolves had stolen most of our food from the town food storage hut. I listened to him in horror. “Hamish Hawkin, since we live on a small island it is your job to go to the nearest country and collect some food. Do you accept your job?” yelled Mayor Johnson. “Yes Sir” Hamish yyelled back. When the meeting was finished we headed home.
“Please can I come?” I begged the nest day. “No. The journey’s very long and very dangerous.” Hamish replied.
I decided I’d pretend to go home. I said goodbye and opened the front door and closed it again. I ran up the stairs and hid behind his bedroom door. He took a locket out of his pocket, opened it and kissed a picture of a woman. I saw him do this in the past but took no notice. Anyways I made my way down to the port to Hamish’s boat. I hopped on and rushed into a large locker. It was covered in dust. Suddenly the boat door opened and Hamish walked in and so we started our journey.
A few hours later I was tired of standng and desperately wanted to sit down. Suddenly I got an itch in my nose. “A chooooooo! Oh no!” I said. The locker door opened. “Hamish” I said. “What are you doing here?” Hamish yelled. “Sorry” I said. We decided I could stay on the boat because it would be too long to return.
“Oh no, there’s a storm coming” I said in horror. “It’s okay, this boat is built for this weather” Hamish said calmly. Suddenly lightning struck her and water splashed over the sides of the boat. “Here” Hamish said as he gave me a life jacket. “What about you?” I asked. “I’m okay.” Hamish fussed.
I gave Hamish a big hug and he plunged his hand deep into his pocket and took out his beautiful silver locket. I opened it and inside was a picture of my grandmother and a young man on her wedding day. “That’s me and your grandmother on our wedding day” Hamish said in a tone as soft as silk. “Grandfather” I said and I wrapped my hands around him. “I love you” I said. “I love you too” grandfather said.
The rest is a blur I don’t know how but grandfather is gone and he saved me but got himself killed. I miss him terribly. So I moved to Kinsale where he met my grandmother. I opened my own little shop that sells little treasures. It’s called Hamish Hawkin’s!
